Dear visitor,

in the last years I often felt the need to be in touch with coaches, athletes and researchers who use internet to get and exchange information about the training methodology.

In consideration of the difficulty for a good and accurate translation of my works from Russian to English, I didn’t start this project. Now, also if the same difficulties still persist, I decide to build this site where you can find some information about my past and present work which content will be added progressively.

The aim is to build a place where you can get the original interpretation about all aspects of my works and, if you wish, be in contact with me.

You may get a free registration as member of the site and leave your suggestions or questions in the Forum.

With the help of my daughter Natalia (PhD), who is also my scientific assistant, I will try to give you an answer.

Published the e.book “THE BLOCK TRAINING SYSTEM IN ENDURANCE RUNNING”   Minimize

We opened the “BookShop” page (visible to registered users only) where it will be possible to buy my books.

I wished publish firstly “The Block Training System in Endurance Running” because I recently observed great interest and debate with respect to the Block Training System (BTS) and, at the same time, a great deal of misunderstanding and misinterpretation of the subject matter.

Previous English publications have only illustrated the basic principles of BTS and I don’t think there has been enough explanation to give the reader a sufficient understanding of the matter.

In this book the reader will see how the basic principles of BTS have been applied to a concrete training model, the BTS in endurance running.

In order to obtain a more clear understanding of BTS basic concepts, so that they can be applied more effectively in other sport disciplines, the reader can follow a bottom up learning approach: from the concrete model to the principles of BTS.

The reader should be aware, however, that in order to build a successful application of BTS it’s very important to have a deep knowledge of the physiological basis of specific sport disciplines.

In the 50 pages of this book you will learn the theoretical and practical principles upon which the Block Training System for endurance running has been developed, the results of its experimentation, and how has been build the training model with the description of each training means and the training programs used.

However, these principles can also be applied to develop a BTS for other endurance sport disciplines. The author, using the basis of this model, has developed other models for different endurance sport disciplines: rowing, skating and skiing.

More than 20 years have passed since the beginning of the experimentation on this training model; however, it is still a “winning model” as demonstrated by the results of its application in recent years.

One of most successful applications has been developed by Prof. Y. Verkhoshansky and Oreste Perri, Italian Rowing National Team coach (canoe, kayak).

The Italian National team, via the integration of the BTS, won ten Olympic medals (four gold): five in Atlanta 1996, three in Sydney 2000 and two in Athens 2004.

The coaches engaged with endurance sport disciplines can find in this publication the bases and references to develop “their own Block Training System”.

Main Themes

Three factors are characterizing the current status of methodology of training system:

  1. the probability to discover new, original and very effective training means is very low now. There are many effective means already discovered. The best way to improve the results comes from the method and system that uses them;
  2. the volume of training loads achieved the limit of reasonableness. Today the professional athletes are training about 8 hours per day, 2-4 times during the day, near to 1,700 hours per year. It’s quite impossible imagine any further increase of load volume. We should look for models that assure a most rational use of the training loads over the year cycle;
  3. today there is the tendency to increase the intensity of the training work to increase the effectiveness of the training process, especially for the top class athlete. This is an expedient that needs to be used very carefully according to the qualification of athletes, the level of their preparedness and the calendar of competitions.

We suggest you a way that can give a solution to these problems.
